What is it?
The digital nomad permit is specifically aimed at foreign professionals who exercise their profession and provide their services remotely (outside Portugal).
Who can apply?
All subordinate workers (in companies) or self-employed workers can apply for a digital nomad permit, provided they can demonstrate, with supporting evidence, that:
- They perform their duties remotely – for companies based outside Portugal;
- Their salary exceeds €3,040 per month;
- They have all the other documents necessary for the permit application
How to apply?
As with other permits, the permit for digital nomads is first requested at the Embassy or Consulate of the country of origin (country of nationality or country of residence of the applicant). In case of approval, the Embassy or Consulate has up to 60 working days to issue the permit. After issuing it, the applicant will have 4 months to travel to Portugal and apply for a Residence Permit at the Portuguese Borders and Immigration Service (SEF).
Is it possible to request family reunification with this permit?
Yes. Spouses, minor children, dependent children of legal age (who are studying/enrolled in a teaching establishment) can apply for a family reunification permit.
